Someone please rent our house!! Only $700/month + utilities. So, Scott and I are making the next big step in our life and buying a new house. We've loved our house, but we knew it's not where we would stay forever. We've found a wonderful house in Norris Ferry Crossing. It's not official yet, but pending an inspection this week we are hoping to move in mid-December. Our current house is a perfect little house, so we want to try to rent it. It's a 3 bedroom/1 bath on Boulevard St right off of Line Avenue in Shreveport. It's very close to Centenary, LSU Health Sciences Center, and I-20. We have a security system and fenced in back yard. So please pass the word around and let us know if you or someone you know is interested!!

My godfather lost his 11 month battle with brain cancer Saturday at around 4:30 pm. Although it is enormously hard that he is gone, his death  proved to me that God is truly amazing and I feel I should share his story. For about the past month, Uncle Doyle had been sleeping almost all day and rarely was able to get out of his bed. He hardly communicated with the exception of the occasional "yeah." Last Friday he started having swallowing difficulty, and his home hospice nurse suggested it was time for him to move to Grace Home, a wonderful hospice home in Shreveport. He was moved to Grace Home around noon on Saturday. When he got there, they assessed him and said he had 5-6 hours to live. We all knew he was getting worse and his time would come soon, but no one knew it would be that soon. I was at lunch with my friends, but when I left the restaurant I had 5 missed calls and knew something was wrong. Scott and I met my mom at Grace Home. Many of Uncle Doyle's family and friends were there. He was on oxygen and morphine and, although his eyes were open, he hardly knew who was around him. He has two sons, one of which has been living with them since he's been sick. The other son lives in Dallas. Once they found out he had 6 hours, the son from Dallas drove to Shreveport. This is where the story is amazing. When he son from Dallas arrived, everyone but immediate family left the room. His wife, two sons, mother, and aunt were in the room alone with him for less than 10 minutes before we heard his wife hysterically begin crying. We knew he had died. He waited until his son could be there. The timing could not have been more glorious. Those of us closest to him all went into the room, stood around him, and prayed. Uncle Doyle was like a second father to me, and I know he'll always be watching over me. Please, if you pray, pray for his family. After he died, his wife repeated over and over "I can't do this. How am I going to do this." She needs all the strength and peace possible.

Change of plans... I am now officially employed at CHRISTUS Schumpert hospital. It's a long and stressful story, but here's the basics. When I wrote my last entry, I had informally accepted a position as an SLP for a nursing home. Well, the same day I received the contract from the nursing home I got a call from Schumpert. Schumpert is where I did one of my internships and I absolutely loved it. When I first started job hunting Schumpert didn't have any positions... then they had a part time position... then it was a PRN position... then they had none again. I had finally given up on them when I accepted the nursing home. Well, some people at Schumpert shuffled around so there would be a FULL TIME position open. It took several weeks to get the position posted and everything, but as of 9:45 this morning I got the job! It's my dream job... I'll be doing primarily pediatrics in the kid's clinic and I'll be the speech-language pathologist for Sutton Children's Hospital! I always said I wanted to be at a children's hospital, and this is about the closest thing in Shreveport/Bossier. I'll also have some adult clients on the rehab and acute care floors, which is great because I'll get such a wide range of experiences. The salary is much less than the nursing home, and it was a REALLY REALLY hard decision, but I just had to go with the place that would make me happiest. I know the people there, I know how everything works, and I couldn't be more excited! The start date is May 26th and I'll get to take off for my family cruise in June. I'm soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea!!!!

I am employed! I have officially accepted a job at Garden Court Nursing Center in Bossier City. I never thought I would want to work in a nursing home, but I really liked this one. It's only medicare and private insurance patients, no medicaid. Most of the patients go there only for therapy and then go home after a couple months... so it's not the depressing "i'm here to die" type of home. They offered a really really great salary, I decided I wasn't too keen on moving to Greenville, NC, and the other job I wanted would only be PRN (not full time), so I decided to accept this offer. I start May 26th, which means I'll have over a month between end of school and graduation to relax. And, I told them I was planning a trip with my family in June, so that will be written into my contract from day 1. So, there we go... I have a plan! Yea!!!!!

Well, it's about that time when family and friends start nudging me about updating this thing. I think this entry will be much more up-beat than my last. Biggest news first... I PASSED COMPS! I unconditionally passed my comprehensive examination, meaning that I can graduate in May. I'm still waiting on scores from the PRAXIS. Passing comps was such a HUGE relief... I danced around the house, by myself, for about an hour after I found out I passed. So, all I have left is 2 classes, my offsite Stoner Hill, and 2 clients at Mollie E Webb. I'll have finals starting around April 20th, but I'll be done with school no later than April 24th and officially graduate on May 24th. I can't believe it's finally here!

That brings me to another biggie... job hunting. Scott is still ready for a change, but hasn't really found anything he loves, so I'm mainly looking in Shreveport. However, I am currently in the mountains of NC with my parents following an interview for a job at a hospital in Tarboro, NC. It's about 1 hour and a half from Raleigh, closer to the coast. While staying in Raleigh I got to see my great friend Mark Miller and his wife. I was offered the job but haven't made my decision yet. It's a good job... just not great. I always said it would take something great to make me move this far from home. The area around the coast is pretty much like Shreveport... no where near the beautiful mountains I love about North Carolina. So we'll see... it's a great salary, which is always hard to turn down, I'm just not totally convinced the job is worth the move. I've also been offered a job in the schools in Dallas and a job at a nursing home in Shreveport. But, what I'm really holding out for is the job I've always wanted in Shreveport. Unfortunately the paperwork hasn't been completed yet, so I can't apply for a week or so. Hopefully that job will come through so I can stay in Shreveport and work somewhere I really enjoy.

So, that's where I stand now. I'm enjoying relaxing in the mountains with my parents.. it's been awhile since I've had a trip with just me and my parents. Unfortunately I have several assignments and things to think about at home, not to mention deciding where I'll be working/living come May. I know it will all work out like it's supposed to. It won't be long before I have a plan! Thank goodness!!

ps- i just uploaded lots of pictures to mvaughn.shutterfly.com ... enjoy!
